This strawberry and blueberry smoothie is delicious and refreshing and also a great way to pack in your vitamin C whilst enjoying your summer fruits.
Summer berries are not only a delight to eat, with their rich, vibrant colours and juicy, sweet and tart flavour, but they are also packed with health benefits, including vitamins and antioxidants. A win-win all around - hooray!
Normally, I prefer to enjoy my berries unadulterated, particularly if they are ripe and juicy. But sometimes I like to change things up a bit, and a fruit mashup is just the answer. And so this strawberry and blueberry smoothie was born - a refreshing treat on a hot summer's day!
When strawberries start appearing everywhere in ever larger boxes, it's clear that the summer season has arrived. British strawberries are some of the best, with their delicately sweet flavour, that no sweetener is even required when making smoothies. I added some blueberries and a banana to create this strawberry and blueberry smoothie that the children absolutely loved!
This formulation makes quite a thick smoothie, almost spoonable, if you wanted to enjoy it as dessert. If you want your strawberry and blueberry smoothie to have a thinner consistency, you can add a splash of apple juice to yours. On a really hot and scorching day, it might even be nice to crush a handful of ice in with your fruit mixture! You can use a blender, food processor or any other device that can blitz and puree fruit to make this smoothie.
