Our collection of Best Family Vegetarian Recipes is not limited to those following a vegetarian diet! We are certainly not vegetarians but enjoy eating plenty of vegetarian dishes, including all the ones in this collection. If you are following a vegetarian diet, it's important to eat a wide variety of foods to ensure you get all your essential nutrients. It can be easy to get stuck in a rut and eat the same foods over and over again, but the ever growing popularity of plant based foods makes it a lot easier to have a varied vegetarian diet.
Although we are not limited to a vegetarian diet, I am always on the lookout for 'keeper' vegetarian recipes. I try to keep the family on a balanced diet by cooking a variety of meat, poultry, fish and plenty of vegetables and fruit. Plant based food has been shown to be beneficial to our health, and although sometimes it can take a bit of creativity to find the right vegetarian dish for the family, the rewards are always worth the effort.
Even if I am serving meat as part of the main course, I love to have loads of vegetable dishes on the side. Vegetables add texture, colour and most importantly, flavour, to a meal. They also provide all important fibre, to help keep your digestive system healthy.
If you are following a vegetarian diet, the key to staying full is making sure you have sufficient plant based protein in your meal. This can be in the form of pulses, nuts and seeds, cheese or eggs (if you're not eating a vegan diet). Pulses are great and extremely good value (particularly if you buy dried pulses and cook them yourself) for the amount of protein and general nutrition they provide. And it's so easy to cook up a batch of your favourite pulse and add it to salads and other dishes throughout the week. I also always keep plenty of nuts around the house and in my bag for snacking.
