Mango ice pops are a favourite summertime treat, perfect for cooling down when the the temperatures start heating up. We make this simple recipe every season - it's bursting with real fruit flavour that will delight any mango lover!

Mango Ice Pops

Whatever name you call them by, ice pops / popsicles / ice lollies are the ideal way to keep you cooler on a hot summer's day. The recipe for mango ice pops below contains nothing but pure fruit and juice, so it's free from added processed sugar (good for the children!).

For the best flavour, it's important to select ripe and sweet mangoes. The quality of orange juice used will also make a big difference. I prefer to use fresh mango and freshly squeezed orange juice, as I have better quality control that way. A lot of mango goes into this recipe for mango ice pops, as the concentration of fruit means the flavour will come through when frozen.

Mango Ice Lollies

Feel free to use frozen mango, if you have found a reliably good brand. You could also use shop bought orange juice, although I would recommend buying pure juice labelled as 'freshly squeezed' and preferably unpasteurised. Freshly squeezed juice has real orange flavour and a natural sweetness to it. Some pasteurised orange juices zap out all the natural flavour, resulting in something tasting very artificial or of nothing at all.

Mango Ice Lollies

You can use any type of mould to make these mango ice pops, although my favourite one is this Zoku one. The drip guards are fantastic for keeping fingers free from stickiness, but I especially love that the moulds can be removed from their stand, so that once frozen, the ice pops can be stored in the freezer without the stand, saving space. Each pop is about 90ml (3oz), a good size for keeping you cool!

Here's what you'll need to make these mango ice pops:

450g fresh mango flesh (about three mangoes)
150ml freshly squeezed orange juice (about two large oranges)

And here's what you'll need to do:

  • Wash and cut the mangoes.
  • Slice the flesh into chunks, remove it from the skin, and place it in the jug of your blender.
  • Juice your oranges, and add the juice to the jug.
  • Blend until the mixture is uniform and smooth.
  • Fill each ice pop mould with the mango mixture.
  • Insert the pop sticks, and place in the freezer to set for at least eight hours.
  • Serve when you need a cooling refreshment!
